DR SHELLEY TAYLOR
PhD, PGDipClinPsy, PGDipSci, BA
NZCCP, NZPB
Shelley is passionate about helping others improve their mental wellbeing and life. She has extensive experience in adult mental health having worked as a clinical psychologist for 20 years. Having worked for the Southern District Health Board for 15 years, she gained a wealth of experience in adult mental health issues. She has worked since 2020 as a private clinician engaged in the assessment and treatment of trauma symptoms, depression, anxiety, and interpersonal difficulties.
Shelley describes herself as unbelievably lucky to have found a career that caters to her genuine interest in people. She is fascinated by how people act and feel and what drives these behaviours. She jokes that she can look at beautiful scenery and be bored within a few minutes, but can people watch all day. Her genuine interest is generally commented on by her clients who feel listened to and respected. Her approach is to work collaboratively with clients “as a team”.

Given her interest in people, there is not much in terms of mental wellbeing that Shelley is not interested in engaging with. Over the past five years her focus has been on trauma and the impact of this. She has developed a solid understanding of personality disorder, trauma reactions including complex PTSD and PTSD, as well as having extensive knowledge in other areas of adult mental health.
